Oxygen Collector can be mined using any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, it will drop nothing.
UE Crafting/Basic Components
Each collector extracts 20 air points per second from every 14 leaf blocks. With this value in mind, you can calculate how many leaf blocks are needed within the range of the Oxygen Collector to supply sufficient oxygen for sealers and other machinery.
Place down the Oxygen Collector near some leaves and give it power. It will automatically start to suck the oxygen out of the leaves around. Note that the leaves will be consumed slowly over time, and will have to be replanted/replaced. The more leaves surrounding the Collector, the more oxygen it will collect. Alternatively, you can place it near growing wheat which will not be consumed. Also, wheat give you 20 air points per second every 14 blocks.
If you are on The Overworld, simply place down the oxygen collector and power it, and it will immediately start collecting oxygen from the air. In other environments without oxygen (such as the Moon, Mars, etc.), leaves will be required for it to work.
Connect the collector to a power source, Battery, Coal Generator, or (Buildcraft/Universal Electricity/IC2). You can then connect the Oxygen Collector to a Oxygen Bubble Distributor, Oxygen Sealer, or Oxygen Compressor using Oxygen Pipes. The bubble the Distributor creates is bigger depending on how much Oxygen is being collected. Multiple Oxygen Collectors can be hooked up to a Oxygen Bubble Distributor.
The oxygen collector gathers oxygen from leaves up to 5 blocks away from the collector. The minimum number of leaf blocks required for the machine to become active is 2, although this will generally not be enough to power oxygen-using machines such as the Oxygen Bubble Distributor, or the Oxygen Sealer. The minimum number of leaves required to reliably supply, for example, an Oxygen Bubble Distributor, is around 115.
- Leaves will slowly decay, in Minecraft, if they don't have a wooden log block nearby. It's therefore a good idea to place a few wooden logs in among your leaf blocks.
- In addition to leaves, the Oxygen Collector can also collect oxygen from growing crops (Wheat) - so you can use your food farm as an oxygen farm.
